HOW TO PRAY
The following is a recipe for prayer following the acronym P.R.A.Y.
P - Praise.
Begin your prayer time with Praise.
Praise takes our thoughts or concerns and directs them vertically towards God by Verbalizing gratitude for who He is and what He has done.
A great way to start is by telling God something you appreciate about His character and why.
Perhaps his unconditional love or never ending Grace.
R - Repent.
The next important component to prayer is repentance. (I John 1:9)
When we put our faith in Christ, we are totally forgiven of all our past, present, and future sins.
Because of that full and free forgiveness, our relationship with God has been eternally secured.
The problem is, we still sin and those ongoing sins disturb our fellowship with our God.
Repentance is acknowledging poor behavior, and working to Change.
Simply ask God for forgiveness and the Grace to repent.
A - Ask
First we align our heart with God then we dive in to the request we have for him.
No doubt there are many things you would like to see God do for your family members, for your friends, and for yourself.
God encourages us to come boldly to Him and ask. (Hebrews 4:16) (Matthew 7:7-8)
Y - Yield
We must be willing to yield or surrender our desires and our thoughts to God’s wisdom.
Our model is Jesus and we see this beautifully portrayed as He faced the cross. (Matthew 26:39)
In the end, it is our way of acknowledging that His will is what will truly satisfy us anyway.
God’s plan is better, His foresight is further and his love is greater than we could ever imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)
