What you need to know about shadowing as a leader

Thank you for choosing to lead and love the people of The Movement Church! Below is both the process of communication and logistics to hit, as well as the most important factor, WHY we do what we do!

the why behind the what

Simply put, we were built to build! God created each and everyone of us to be a part in building The Church (1 Cor 12:12 NLT "The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.")

When we step into serving there is a fulfillment that comes with responding to that call on the inside of us that God placed there long ago (Eph 2:10 NLT "For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.")

So remember, serving is not about someone filling a spot on the roster or finishing a task, it fulfills a deeper calling in us to be a part of building His house which is the church!

PROCESS

  • WEEK PRIOR:
    • Communication to your Shadow Recruit
      • Call and introduce yourself! Let them know you will be the Team Captain for the service they are shadowing and the point person for anything they might need!
      • Let them know basics of what Sunday Morning will look like for them, a little bit about what the team does and how to respond to Elvanto scheduling.
    • Logistics
      • Change them to a Volunteer in Elvanto
      • Set them up for text and email messaging
      • Schedule them as a Shadow Recruit for that weekend and add them to your Team Roster
      • ***You can find How-To Videos here for all of the above steps in Elvanto!
      • Let the Team Member they will be shadowing know that someone will be shadowing them on Sunday!

  • SUNDAY MORNING:
    • Make sure to identify your Shadow Recruit, officially meet them in person and introduce them to the team member that they will be shadowing for the morning
    • You or the team member they are shadowing show them to Dream Team Check-IN where they will check in each time they serve, grab a lanyard and maybe coffee or a snack!
    • At huddle introduce your Shadow Recruit to the team and give them a big welcome!!!
    • Check through the morning to see how they are doing and at the end of the day/ your service to serve ask them how it went and how they felt! You can let them know here that you will follow up over the next week to talk more about what they think!

  • FOLLOW UP:
    • Reach out as the Team Captain to your Shadow Recruit. It should look something like this:
      • "We loved having you with us on Sunday, now that you have had some time to think about it I'd love to know your thoughts!"
      • "Most importantly we want you to be passionate about where you are serving! Do you think _____(what ever team you are on, ie. Guest Services)___ is a good fit?"
      • "Do you have any questions or thoughts for me?"
      • "Okay so our team is Eagle 2 and you can always find the rotational calendar on our team page but we serve every other week..." - Fill them in on any logistics they may need to know. During this follow up you can identify which team you are on and what your rotation looks like (either once a month, every other week or every week) so you can plan accordingly.
      • "I would love to be a part of what God is doing in your life, is there anything I can be praying for for you over this next week?" - This is a great way to start the connection of you pastoring them, which everyone is looking for!
    • IF they don't feel like it's the Right Fit:
      • That's Okay!!!
      • Let them know we want them to find a place where they are passionate about serving!
      • Have them text "discover" to our number (949) 267-3242 and take the DISC test (a personality test) as well as they Spiritual Gifting's test so we can find out more about how God created them and what team would be a great fit!
      • Let them know one of our Dream Team Coordinators will reach out to them to help them find the right fit!
      • Email "cindy@theocmovement.com" and let us know who to reach out to so we can follow up with them ASAP!
